Liverpool 1-0 Everton: Five things we learned – Minamino will get stuck in
Curtis Jones can play
At the start of the game there were times when Jones struggled to get into the game and often appeared isolated, but one thing is sure: he can play. He was taking up good positioned and whenever he got the ball, the attacker wasn’t afraid to take risks to keep moving it on. That’s a great sign.
Jones displayed excellent game intelligence, technique and composure under pressure – especially when the youngster took one touch to spin and bamboozle two Everton players. It was a sign of things to come, and the confidence of the player who has been highly rated within Melwood for some time now.
His goal was absolutely stunning as well. Jones picked the ball up on the very edge of the area and whipped it with such certainty, such power, that all Pickford could do with flap a despairing hand at it as the ball buried itself in the back of the net.
His next steps are surely to gain first team experience by going out on loan. The fact Klopp has kept him around indicates how highly the German thinks of Jones, but real development will only come with game time and you can’t see him getting a lot at Liverpool.
