There’s tremendous club unity

Every single player who came into the side slipped into the Klopp style seamlessly as the young lads passed and pressed and harried Everton like the regular, senior outfit do. Williams was excellent down the right and sent in Alexander-Arnold style crosses while Pedro Chirivella and Phillips would always look to pass short or carry the ball.

Chirivella assumed the deep lying playmaker role and touched it so frequently in the middle of the park that by the end of the game you didn’t even question who he was any more. Yes, there were lose moments but this is a footballer who has hardly played at a first team level and that would be expected.

But this unity and uniformity of play is highly encouraging and it shows that the U18s and U23s are all being taught with one eye on making Klopp’s first team. We saw that both full-backs attacking – Williams and Yasser Larouci weren’t shy to make runs deep into Everton’s half, while the inside forwards tucked in and threatened goal or provided ammunition for the central forward.

It makes it that much easier for youngsters to make an impact when they get called up and transition easier to first team ranks – which is what we all want to see.
