Liverpool have been linked with their third Norwich player in two weeks after news broke about interest in Jamal Lewis and Emiliano Buendia.

The Athletic’s David Ornstein reveal on his podcast with Mark Chapman that the Reds are interested in another one of the Canaries’ highest performing players.

And it’s not striker Teemu Pukki to play the back-up role to Roberto Firmino and Divock Origi – it’s young, English forward Todd Cantwell.

Cantwell has scored six goals and created two assists in his debut Premier League season, which is an excellent return for someone playing for a relegation threatened side during his breakout year.

If the 21-year-old could get to double figures, there would be a few clubs sniffing around the starlet and you could see this being one of Michael Edwards ploys to bring in talented footballers who are eager to improve and do better.

But do the Reds need Todd Cantwell? There is no doubt he’s an interest prospect and someone who has a future at the highest level, but looking at the squad it would seem like he might struggle for games.

Takumi Minamino can operate across the front three, as can Origi. Xherdan Shaqiri, if he stays, will play on the right while Harry Wilson can come off both flanks. Unless there are sales, namely Shaqiri and Wilson, you’d feel that Klopp already has enough stock in his ranks.

Liverpool already have been linked with interest in left-back Lewis and playmaker Buendia as Jurgen Klopp sends his search for those playing at the bottom end of the top flight into overdrive.

As always, it is encouraging to hear these rumours – especially when they involve players with plenty of growth in their locker and who wouldn’t break the bank. Todd Cantwell might never happen, but it’s good to see his name and Liverpool put together.
