Local reports have indicated that Liverpool have bid £12.8m for a Turkish star as they look to strengthen during the January transfer window.
Citing a report from Sabah, the Express have written that Ugurcan Caki is on the Reds’ radar as they look to recruit competition for Alisson.
It goes so far as to say that Liverpool have made a bid for the Trabzonspor star, who has been a key man in their fine defensive record in the Super Lig.
Ahmet Agaoglu, club president, has gone on the record and admitted an offer has been placed for his goalkeeper – who Agaoglu refers to as a Liverpool player.
"He commented: “It’s been said Liverpool have made an offer. So a team that is undefeated in the Premier League wants my keeper. In other words Liverpool’s goalkeeper is in my goal.”"
Ugurcan Caki is relatively new to the scene and has played just 42 professional games. Jurgen Klopp and Michael Edwards must really see something in him if this rumour is true.
Newcastle and West Ham are rumoured to be interested in the stopper, said HITC, so groupthink would indicate that he is a player of some sort of potential.
Liverpool got rid of Simon Mignolet and Loris Karius in their search for a player who was good enough to be Alisson’s back-up, and who was willing to play the role. At just 23, would Caki be willing to give up a few years of his career to sit on the bench?
With Adrian playing well when called up, this deal doesn’t make sense from an immediate point of view. The club also have Kamil Grabara, who is doing well on loan to Huddersfield in the Championship and appear to be well stocked in that department.
Transfer rumours for January seem to be following a theme: all of the players linked, or bought, have represented good value for money and could be made with an eye on the future.
This is the club we are now. Forward thinking, searching for value, recruiting players for who they may become and their hunger to get there.
