Three players are back in action for Liverpool as they prepared to take on Manchester United on Sunday.

This marks a welcome injury boost for Jurgen Klopp, who had to do some rearranging over the Christmas and New Year period – which included bringing Nathaniel Phillips back for one game.

David Maddock from the Mirror has reported that Joel Matip, Fabinho and Xherdan Shaqiri have all been back to full training and completed an ‘intense’ session as the squad gets ready to beat United this weekend.

There is further good news as Dejan Lovren, James Milner and Naby Keita are all close to being available for the first team. Things are starting to clear up for Liverpool as they look forward to bringing all their resources to bare on the Premier League.

Matip’s return is probably the biggest boost, followed by Fabinho. We have been thin at the back without the former Camaroon international and Lovren – which has left Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez under the pump in terms of the amount of minutes they’ve been forced to play.

Fabinho has been less missed than anticipated. Jordan Henderson stepped up incredibly well in the Brazilian’s absence, while Gini Wijnaldum continues to show his importance to the side. With only 18-months left on his contract, he is the next player who deserved to be handed new terms.

Manchester United could be without Marcus Rashford as their top scorer limped out of their FA Cup win against Wolves. It would be a bonus for Liverpool, although United have enough in the tank to cause problems going forward.

The game at Old Trafford saw an unexpected draw – the only points Liverpool have dropped all season – but that won’t be expected of the side this time around.
