Liverpool 2-0 Man Utd: Four things we learned – Virgil van Dijk has been robbed
Lock him up
The most expensive defender in the world wasn’t playing for Liverpool and that is daylight bloody robbery. Harry Maguire might be the captain and Ole’s best defender but he wasn’t close to being the best one on the park on Sunday.
Van Dijk used to be the most expensive defender in the world and on performance, he should be. Maguire has robbed him of that crown, but all things considered it doesn’t really matter. The deal isn’t really a reflection on Slabhead, it’s a reflection of how business is done in the corridors of power at Old Trafford and should be used as a stick to beat their hierarchy with.
The Guardian gave Maguire a 5/10 out and commented how van Dijk outclassed the England international, while mentioned how the former Leicester man failed to get into the game. Sky Sports agreed and said he lacked ‘authority’. Not a great start to life as the skipper then, Harry.
Putting these two side by side and there is only one clear winner. Virgil is the better defender, hands down. That £75 million price tag seems like an absolutely steal now and will only look better and better as time goes on.
