Liverpool beat Manchester United 2-0 at Anfield as Gini Wijnaldum put in a brilliant performance. Here are three things we learned from it.

Virgil van Dijk‘s header and Mohamed Salah‘s breakaway goal at the death gave the Reds a fairly comfortable looking scoreline, but it was far from that at times.

We missed chances, they missed chances but all of a sudden it was beyond doubt and Anfield was singing about their title belief.

As usual, Jordan Henderson and Wijnaldum started together in the engine room – while Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain provided the dynamism.

The Dutchman hasn’t always performed to this standard through the campaign, but he’s completely trusted by Jurgen Klopp. So it isn’t a surprise to see him picked for big games like this, which Gini normally thrives in.

With an impending contract situation hanging over our heads, performances like this are crucial to reminding everyone about the skills Gini Wijnaldum brings to the side. He’s got legs, energy, tactical knowledge and the occasional flick and trick in his bag.
