Defense

. Trent Alexander-Arnold. 7. He picked up the assist on Van Dijk’s goal in the first half off his corner delivery. That delivery was perhaps his greatest contribution to the game. He had a 70 percent pass rating and was 33 percent accurate on his cross delivery. Defensively he put in three tackles but registered zero blocks, zero clearances, and zero interceptions..

Virgil van Dijk. 9. Liverpool is so dangerous from set pieces with their big 6’3” Dutch centre back. Coming in from the edge of the 18 yard box, big Virgil, towered over everyone to get his fourth goal of the season. Equalling a career high from last season. Add eight clearances, two interceptions, and a tackle to his game sheet and Van Dijk was perfect. He could have easily been the man of the match on any other day, if not for what <a rel=. .

. Joe Gomez. 7. He wasn’t flashy and didn’t stand out too much, but as a defender, that’s a good thing. Usually when a defender stands out it’s not for anything positive. Usually he’s making mistakes. Joe Gomez did his job well against United with a tackle, three interceptions, two clearances, and with a 90.7 passer rating. You don’t need to stand out to have a good game. Gomez proved why..

. Andrew Robertson. 6. United did a good job of shutting down deliveries from Liverpool’s left side. Of Robertson’s nine crosses only one was successful. Add to that a 69.7 percent passer rating, and Robertson wasn’t as effective as he normally is down the flank for Liverpool..
