Liverpool transfer target rejects Spurs – despite clear link between clubs
Liverpool transfer target Boubakary Soumare has rejected an offer from Tottenham Hotspur, despite a clear link between the two sides.
The Daily Mail has reported that Spurs are keen on the 20-year-old midfielder, but he has already turned them down as they wanted to make a January move.
Joao Sacramento, who is Jose Mourinho’s assistant, worked with Boubakary Soumare at Lille and it is thought that link could have tempted the starlet to make a move to north London.
But Soumare is driven and is not willing to leave France just yet.
"“I told him very clearly. I have a very clear idea of where I want to go in my career,” the Daily Mail reported that he said. “I want to do a full season here, yes.”"
Liverpool have been linked with the defensive midfielder, along with main suspects Manchester United, Chelsea, Real Madrid, Arsenal and Valencia.
There are no figures quoted in the initial report, and Transfermarkt have him valued at £19.8 million. Soumare is a France U21 initial who is making baby steps during his first few seasons. The defensive midfielder has only played 50 Ligue 1 games, but age is no barrier if the talent is there.
Out of the legion of clubs after him, Liverpool and Jurgen Klopp would be the most attractive option. We all know about the German’s ability to develop young players and his willingness to give them minutes.
He also fits well with what the Reds want from their players. He’s young, is clearly driven and has a plan to get to the top. His value will only increase under Klopp watchful eye – but the one problem is a stacked squad in his position.
Unless a few are moved on – say James Milner after next season, Adam Lallana at the end of this one and maybe one other – you couldn’t see Boubakary Soumare getting regular football.
