Liverpool 4-0 Southampton player ratings: Roberto Firmino has magic boots
Liverpool thrashed Southampton 4-0 and moved 22 points clear at the top of the Premier League. Read our player ratings from the game here!
Former Red Danny Ings missed a few first half chances before Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain opened the scoring in the second 45. Jordan Henderson made it two before Mohamed Salah grabbed a double to end the game on a high.
Jurgen Klopp pulled a bit of a rabbit out of the hat by selecting Oxlade-Chamberlain in a forward role with Divock Origi and Takumi Minamino on the bench as Fabinho was handed his first league start since recovering from injury.
Salah now has 14 goals in 2019/2020 and has opened up a three goal lead over Sadio Mane, who was missing because of a hamstring problem. If he continues his current form, Mo could break the 20 mark for a third campaign in a row.
Roberto Firmino picked up another three assists and could get double figures for goals and assists – a fine contribution from a player vital to the cause.
After the game, the BBC reported that Klopp thought Liverpool have plenty more room to improve. “We’re not even close to being perfect. We just look to use our skills in the best possible way.”
But from where we’re all sitting, it looks pretty good. If Manchester City win on Sunday, the lead will be cut to *only* 19 points. This side are breaking records left, right and centre – so let’s get into the player ratings to see how they all did.
All scores are an average taken from This Is Anfield, the Echo, the Mirror and the Daily Star.
