Liverpool fans are slamming Man City during the West Ham game
Liverpool fans are slamming Manchester City during the opening moments of their Premier League game against West Ham.
Pep Guardiola’s side after hosting the Hammers at their lovely Etihad stadium, but it’s a mid-week and the poor old oil rich side are having attendance issues again.
And we’ve all spotted it. Queue lots of lovely jokes on Twitter about it, which basically have the club’s life for their recent troubles with UEFA and such-like.
The main theme is running like this: ‘Even Man City couldn’t lawyer their way out of this attendance’ or ‘looking forward to when we’re told this has been a sell-out’.
In a way you can sympathise with City fans. This is another fixture played out during the week in a competition they have no hope of winning. They’ll probably finish second in the league and their are bigger fish to fry.
They have also had a packed Christmas schedule as well as Carabao Cup commitments that weren’t placed on Liverpool fans. The majority are working class folk, just like us, who probably can’t really afford another match ticket.
But at the same time it’s hard to make comparisons when our FA Cup game against Shrewsbury sold out and we knew the team would be a bunch of Academy lads.
It’s a tough period to be a City fan right now. Liverpool are 22 points above them in the Premier League and haven’t just been issued a two year ban from the Champions League. Our project is in rude health, the manager committed to a new deal and the best players are definitely going to be running out next season.
While question marks remain over the future of Guardiola, there could be an exodus of City stars if European football is denied to them as well as a restructuring of the way they are financed.
I’d stay way too.
