Football experts are now using Liverpool as the benchmark for everything that’s done well in the game.

Jurgen Klopp have taken this side to such heights that anyone doing well is immediately compared to someone in the Liverpool side.

And that’s what happened to Arsenal youngster Bukayo Saka, who is going through a little purple patch for the Gunners and now has nine assists while playing at left-back.

The latest of which came during their Europa League win against Olympiacos. Saka got the only assist of the game as Alexandre Lacazette scored in the 81st minute.

In the Premier League, the 18-year-old has started to hit his stripes since coming into the first team fold and has assisted in two of his last three appearances. Newcastle United and Bournemouth were on the receiving end of his skills, while Burnley got away lightly as he only played 45 minutes.

These are impressive statistics for someone so young, who seems to be galvanised by Mikel Arteta at the helm. But even better is how anyone, especially those at full-back, are instantly compared to Liverpool.

Andy Robertson and Trent Alexander-Arnold have been pushing boundaries of what is thought possible by a pair of full-backs as they’ve been getting assist after assist after assist.

Alexander-Arnold has 12 in all competitions, Robertson six as they have caused chaos up and down the flanks. TAA grabbed 16 for 2018/2019 and Robbo got 13 as the pair of them blew everyone out of the water.

Maybe one day Saka will be good enough to come into the side and act as competition for Robbo, but until then he’ll have to be content with just being good enough to be mentioned in the same tweet as the Scot.

Meanwhile, Arsene Wenger has suggested that Liverpool will be good enough to go the full Premier League unbeaten.
