Liverpool missed injured captain Jordan Henderson’s rockets as they toiled to a scruffy 3-2 win over West Ham in the Premier League.

The Sunderand lad was missing from the team because of a hamstring injury he picked up in the 1-0 loss against Atletico Madrid, and for a while it appeared as if that would prove fatal.

Liverpool were poor against the Hammers, make no bones about it. The 3-2 scoreline flatters Jurgen Klopp’s side and shows just how great their strength of character is because that was not a match winning performance.

They certainly missed Jordan Henderson, whose replacement Naby Keita had a less than impressive evening. Surely James Milner would have been considered if he hadn’t been ruled out the match on Monday with a minor issues.

Jordan Henderson isn’t just an excellent footballer with an underrated range of passing, he’s also the vocal lead in the engine room and the glue that often sticks it all together. When Liverpool needed rockets, especially during the first half, he wasn’t there to provide it.

When Anfield needed an icon to unit behind, to fire them up and to spark life into quiet mouths, he was watching and not playing. You never know what you miss until it’s gone and we’ve all just experienced that with Henderson.

Roberto Firmino will sacrifice himself for Timo Werner. dark. Next

But thankfully Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane combined at the end to end West Ham’s hope of being the only side to beat Liverpool in the Premier League this season – and when you’ve got forwards like that you’re always in with a chance of nicking it at the end.

Sadly for Keita, it doesn’t look like he’s in with a chance of doing anything in the end. Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain came on and looked much sharper, much more dangerous and much more likely to do something positive than the Guinea international.
