Liverpool dropped the second-leg of their Champions League clash with Atletico Madrid 3-2. Things could have been much different if not for an Adrian error.

If anyone ever tells you goalkeeping is overrated have them watch this game. Goalkeeping single-handedly decided Liverpool‘s second leg tie against Atletico Madrid.

On one side, Jan Oblak had the game of his life. Even though Liverpool was able to get two past the Slovenian keeper, he stopped nine shots on target by the Reds. His best work was in the second half when at full stretch he parried away an Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain effort wide.

If not for Oblak Liverpool run away with this tie.

On the other side was Adrian. His performance was the exact opposite from Oblak’s performance and it cost Liverpool the match. As you can imagine he isn’t going to receive a good grade after this last performance.

Keeper

Why couldn’t Adrian just clear the ball high and far? Why low and straight down the middle? He made it easy for Atleti to charge back up the field and pop one by him. It was a horrendous mistake from Liverpool’s back up.

Visions of Loris Karius danced in the minds of Liverpool fans after that mistake.

He made three saves on the night. Which is generous. One was a weak shot right down the middle that any Sunday side keep would have stopped. His second “stop” was a simple shot that he fumbled and had to scramble to recover.
