Midfield

. Georginio Wijnaldum. 8. .

What a goal by the Dutchman. That header in the first half was perfect. You could tell that Liverpool desperately wanted to get out of the first half up a goal. In the dying minutes of the half, they squeezed Atleti’s defense and were finally to find the mark.

He’d finish the match with three shots on target and four key passes. Georginio Wijnaldum did his job in the middle of the park to get the ball up to the forwards and to break up passing lanes when Atleti found themselves in possession. Unfortunately, one of his teammates didn’t do his job.

. . . Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain. 7

If not for that incredible Oblak save, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain gets a goal on the night. That shot from outside the box was textbook. Nine-times out of ten that shot hits the back of the net. Sadly, this time out Oblak was having himself a night and got on the end of the shot.

He would get the assist on Wijnaldum’s goal. That cross into the box was perfect from Ox. It had pace and was in the right area. It left Wijnaldum with little to do but turn it towards goal.

Just another standout game from Oxlade-Chamberlain.

. . Jordan Henderson. 6.

Henderson’s engine drove Liverpool for 105 minutes tonight before being subbed off for Fabinho.

In those 105 minutes, Hendo put in12 long balls (50 percent accuracy), 80 touches (the most outside of the four defenders), one-shot (that went horribly wide), a key pass, two interceptions, and a tackle.
