Liverpool 2-3 Atletico Madrid player ratings: The Ox superb, Adrian gets a 1
Forwards
Mohamed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold were having themselves a night against Atleti. Time after time the two linked up to get the ball deep and eventually create a dangerous scoring chance.
Salah finished with seven shots towards the goal (two on target), four key passes, seven dribbles, and had an 84.9 percent passer rating on 66 passes. He was a constant thorn in Atleti’s side and on a different night would have had at least one goal to show for his efforts.
Two over-head kicks? While the first was a good attempt the second left MUCH to be desired. With a defender post-up on him, it was always going to be difficult for Sadio Mané to get the shot over the defender and into the net. He would have been better served to hold up the ball and lay it off for another of his attacking partners.
Through the full 120 minutes, he managed five shots towards the goal (one on target), two key passes, but also finished with a team-low 64.3 percent passer rating.
Why wasn’t Roberto Firmino taken off some fans thought out loud on Twitter? Because Bobby can score. Sure he hasn’t been as prolific as usual in front of goal recently. But he’s one of Klopp’s most trusted players out there.
Firmino rewarded his manager’s trust with a nice goal that should have returned a win for Liverpool if not for a certain back-up keeper spoiling the day.
