Five classic Liverpool games you can stream on YouTube right now
Liverpool 4-3 Newcastle United
This was the game that’s been buried in the memory of so many Liverpool and Newcastle fans over the years. Kevin Keegan, once of the Reds, slumped over the advertising hoardings is an iconic image of a defeated man.
It’s the game that’s often been called the best in the history of the Premier League as two high scoring sides locked horns and decided a straight shoot out was the best way to settle things.
Now you’d get Jose Mourinho trying to park the fleet of busses, but back then Keegan and Roy Evans went toe-to-toe and this is the outcome.
Just have a look at the list of goal scorers and they’re all greats of that era. Les Ferdinand, David Ginola and Tino Asprilla hit the back of the net for the Toon while Stan Collymore and Robbie Fowler grabbed doubles.
Steve McManaman turned out for Liverpool that day, as did Ian Rush and John Barnes for a side who were chasing down the title. Neither Newcastle or Liverpool would go on to win it, but in a way that doesn’t really matter as we were still treated to this unbelievable game of football.
You wouldn’t get this much quality in a game between these two sides now, as the Toon have gone downhill under Mike Ashley, so lets go back in time to the good old days.
