Liverpool 3-1 Everton

An FA Cup final and a Merseyside derby – what a time to be alive! The best thing about this game was that the Reds came from behind to win it after Gary Linekar hit the first of the night.

But until the 57th minute, it looked like the Toffies would seal victory over Liverpool and walk around Merseyside with some bragging rights secure.

Welsh legend Ian Rush had other ideas, though, and banged in a double to help Dalglish win the competition as a player/manager – the first time anyone has ever done that.

Craig Johnston was the meat in the Rush sandwich of goals as the Reds hit three answered to take the game away from Everton and win the double by securing the FA Cup.

Linekar scored the first goal of the night when he sprinted away from Alan Hanson and scored the rebound after Bruce Grobbelaar had saved his initial effort.

Liverpool then pulled their finger out and that was that. Rush was sent through by Jan Molby and scored. Molby set up the second, too, as Johnston stuck a toe on a bobbling ball to give the Reds the lead before Rush claimed the win.

What a win.
