The five most legendary right-backs to wear the Liver Bird
Ray Lambert
Our next legendary right-back however, belongs to Ray Lambert, who joined the Reds in 1936 at the tender age of 13. He would go on to make 341 appearances and score two goals.
This is the generation which is largely considered the genesis of the modern football era. He made his first team debut for the Reds in 1946.
Lambert was consistent and reliable, a trait that is a hallmark in defining the role of the modern right fullback. He was comfortable playing on both the left and right side of the defensive formation. He is also the youngest player to sign a league contract in English football.
