Chris Kirkland // Coventry City // £6,000,000

It seems a bit odd that Liverpool would sign two goalkeepers on the same day but that’s what happened when Chris Kirkland joined from Coventry City and Jerzy Dudek was signed from Feyenoord.

Kirkland was a young star at the time – he’d just been named Young Player of the Year and broke into the England U21 side – and big things were expected from the youngster.

He played just four times in his first season, but was given further opportunities in season two, three and four. But overall Kirkland played just 45 games as injuries and mistakes cut his time at Anfield short.

Kirkland was loaned out to West Brom and got his career going again at Wigan, but never really reached the heights expected of him.

Titi Camara, Liverpool

Titi Camara // Marseille // £2,600,000

Titi Camara was a bit of an odd one with Liverpool. Signed in 1999, he only last one season at Liverpool but made a decent impact and scored 10 goals with 33 appearances in all competitions.

Camara even played against West Ham on the day his father died and scored the winning goal. Despite this decent record, Houllier fell out with the forward at the end of his debut campaign and shipped him off to West Ham after refusing to play the Guinea international for the first two months of the season.

He was named in the 100 Players Who Shook The Kop, despite lasting a little over 12 months on Merseyside, and as a result can only be labelled as a ‘meh’ player.
