Jean Michel Ferri // Istanbulspor //£1,500,000

Jean Michel Ferri was a really weird buy. As the first buy of the Houllier regime, you’d expect bigger things from the midfielder. He arrived as cover for Paul Ince, made his debut in February after arriving in November and then next played in the second-last game of the season.

Those two appearances were it as he left for Sochaux at the end of the season.

The Frenchman was signed on a free to act as cover for Sander Westerveld and played just six games in his four years as he sat on his Anfield contract and departed for nothing in 2003.

Pegguy Arphexad caught the eye playing for Leicester City, but he did nothing for Liverpool and his signing has to go down as one of the worst for Liverpool under Houllier.

Arphexad played the third and fourth round of the FA Cup in the 2000/2001 season and was awarded a winner’s medal for it, but failed to make much of a contribution.

Patrice Luzi // Free Agent

Patrice Luzi was another goalkeeper picked up for nothing who was clearly never going to do anything with Liverpool. He’d played just once in the French second tier and featured in just one game for Liverpool as he departed for nothing in 2005.

Three years completely wasted.
