Manchester City star: ‘Give Liverpool the Premier League title’

A Manchester City star has said Liverpool should be awarded the Premier League title whatever happens with the rest of the season.

We’re 25 points clear of everyone else at the top of the table, and only two wins away from mathematically sealing the deal, but somehow there’s still a debate over what should happen to 2019/2020 because of COVID-19.

There have been plenty of solutions thrown around out there. Karen Brady wants it all scrapped and started again whenever we can start this thing again, which isn’t fishy at all, is it..?

Some think we should just wait it all out and complete this season whenever we can, and deal with 2020/2021 when we finally get round to it.

But Manchester City star Ilkay Gundogan has strong views on the subject, views that you might not necessarily expect from someone playing for Pep Guardiola.

Goal, via ZDF, reported that he said:

"“It would be okay for me [If Liverpool are handed the title], you have to be sporting.”"

The coronavirus pandemic has disrupted the entire sporting landscape but it could also result in clubs below the Premier League dying off. They are running up costs they can’t afford, especially with no game-day income.

One thing that’s been preposed is for top flight sides to help out – and for some players to take wage cuts in order for non-playing staff to be allowed to be kept in their job while we try and beat COVID-19.

Gundogan would be okay with that.

"“Of course I would find that okay, of course. But the lower league clubs do not have it so easy.”"

We should all say thanks to the German international for voicing those views, reasonable views, in light of so much of the self-interest and hysteria surrounding this.

Liverpool should be awarded the title and it’s refreshing to see rivals players come out and say it as well.
