Liverpool journalist James Pearce has poured cold water all over a £144m transfer rumour that’s been doing the rounds over the last few days.

Reports have indicated that Liverpool are in for an incredible bit of business that would send ripples around Anfield, but crucially, divide opinion among the fanbase.

And that’s because the player in question is Raheem Sterling. Reports have linked the Manchester City star is open to a return to the Reds and Jurgen Klopp and Michael Edwards ponder ways of strengthening the side in the summer.

But Pearce has now scoffed at the idea of a reunification, who said there was no chance of the deal going ahead.

Raheem Sterling famously left under a cloud after he and his agent Aidy Ward engineered a move away from Liverpool, with the help of a disputed BBC interview that was arranged without the club’s knowledge.

So much has happened between the two parties that the Reds going in for Sterling wouldn’t go down very well with the hardcore supporters, although it would certainly help the team improve and reach the next level.

But after Pearce warned us not to get excited about the prospect, we’ll have to turn our attention towards more achievable targets.

In other transfer news, speculation was peculating around Reddit that Liverpool were interested in signing a mystery Ghanaian U20 international who plays in the French second division.

However, this doesn’t seem like a deal that would ever go through as the player in question can no longer be classed as ‘one for the future’ and has never appeared at the top level.

And finally, Jamie Carragher was forced to take an L after Virgil van Dijk appeared on Twitter for an AMA as isolation boredom begins to hit all of us. The poor man never even saw it coming.
