Liverpool are rumoured to be lining up a bid for a €25 million Greek star – but does that mean Andy Robertson will have to fight for his place?
Team Talk, which appears to be part of the 365 network and is partnered with Sky Sports, has reported that Liverpool could be in the market for a fairly pricey full-back that could make our star look over his shoulder.
Left-back is a bit of a problem position for Jurgen Klopp. With no natural back-up, the gaffer has had to rely on James Milner to fill the hole but that’s not an ideal solution nor is it a long term one.
This latest transfer rumour could be.
Adam Lewis and Yasser Larouci have failed to prove their ability and don’t look likely to step up to the first team next season, and that means Michael Edwards will probably have to look to the market to secure someone.
Our main problem is that Andy Robertson is so good that anyone who is bought will need to be better, or willing to sit on the bench and fight for the odd game in the cup or a run out against weaker Premier League sides.
Could Konstantinos Tsimikas buck that wisdom?
According to Team Talk, Liverpool have been linked with a €25 million bid for the three-cap Greek international. With five assists in 20 league appearances for Olympiacos, the 23-year-old is having a decent campaign and has played six Champions League games as well.
Tottenham, Sheffield United and Leicester are all interested in Konstantinos Tsimikas and that might spark a bidding war for the Super League star.
He’s had a weird career path so far, spending time on loan in Denmark and the Netherlands before returning to play a massive part in Olympiacos’s quest for glory. 13 games for Esbjerg fB and 37 for Willem in the Eredivisie gave him the skills needed to knock out 77 matches in Greece.
19 assists in 136 career appearances would indicate a fairly attacking player who is improving as he gets older. 12 of those are from his 77 games for Olympiacos – which show his improvement.
But will it end Andy Robertson?
