Liverpool have rightfully taken care of fans during the COVID-19 pandemic as they’ve announced measures that take care of the community.

There’s been an announcement about season tickets and it’s good news, Liverpool fans. The club have announced that renewals will be suspended for 2020/2021.

While the Premier League has been suspended indefinitely, and while there are no more details about the resumption of fixtures there’ll be no cash taken out of your bank account for next season’s tickets.

It’s a good example of Liverpool taking care of the fans during the outbreak and it helps give the side some social capital following the much-criticized decision to furlough staff and then then the correct one to reverse that and take some pressure off the taxpayer bill.

Newcastle United have nicked money from their season ticket holders and have been rightly called out for it, but Mike Ashley doesn’t really mind that – he just wants your money.

But Liverpool need to be better than that and they’ve proved to be so.

As well as suspending payments, Liverpool have also announced that they’ll be refunding season ticket holders if there are no more games at Anfield this season. Fans will also be able to claim credit to be used against games in 2020/2021.

This will go some way to regaining that social capital and gets us back to the left-wing routes of the club and Bill Shankly.

While we’re living in these uncertain times, having the financial security can take a massive weight off your mind. Those season tickets don’t come keep, and while people might not have their full income right now, the knowledge that a big sum isn’t going to be coming out of your bank account for something that isn’t happening right now is a huge relief.

So well done, Liverpool. Keep it coming.
