Liverpool’s 6-1 defeat to Stoke City: Where are they now
By Minh Nguyen
Kolo Toure
Despite the Stoke thrashing, the Ivorian had a solid 2014/15 season and his experience was vital for the club, so he was rewarded with a one-year extension. Toure mainly acted as a locker-room presence and played in the cup games. It was his leadership of the back-line that helped the Reds reach the finals of the League Cup and the Europa League.
Once Toure’s contract expired, he went off to reunite with Brendan Rodgers at Celtic. He wouldn’t play much there due to old age, it helped him earn a coaching role with the club after he retired. Now, he remains next to Brendan Rodgers as an assistant for Leicester City.
Rickie Lambert
This game would mark a disastrous end to Lambert’s disastrous career with the Reds. He would be sold the following summer to West Brom for a fee of around £3 million.
Unfortunately, the striker would never rediscover his Southampton form with the Baggies and was once again shipped away, this time to Cardiff in the Championship. There, the Englishman suffered a gruesome leg injury, which ultimately ended his playing career. He was released by Cardiff and never found another team. Lambert would officially retire on October 2nd, 2017.
Jordan Ibe
Ibe signed a new five-year deal with the Reds just a couple of days before the Stoke game. He was one of the brighter spots that day and had fans optimistic about his future.
Unfortunately, the winger didn’t improve as expected the following season. He often found himself out of favor as he failed to show his promise on a consistent basis. So, when Bournemouth made a £15 million bid for the youngster in 2016, Liverpool agreed to sell.
A buy-back clause was a part of that deal, but it doesn’t like it will come to use. Ibe has been unspectacular with the Cherries and is rarely featured in the starting XI. Although the past couple of seasons have been a disappointment for the English winger, he is still only 24-years-old, so there is hope for a turnaround.
