Enquiry made for €80m Timo Werner alternative
Liverpool have made an enquiry for an €80 million Lazio star as they look to add some quality depth to the squad.
Reports coming out of Italy has suggested that Liverpool asked the Serie A side if they’d be interested in selling one of their hottest properties.
Just in case Jurgen Klopp and Michael Edwards don’t get Timo Werner, the scouting department has been sniffing around some alternative targets and they’ve come up with a bit of a shortlist.
Sky Sports have reported that Liverpool might not want to sign the German – and if that is true then they’ll need to cast their eye around the top five European leagues for someone else.
Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah can’t continue carrying the side for the next few years. We’ve seen that Klopp’s back-up options need to be improved and there are bound to be some changes over the summer.
Xherdan Shaqiri will probably head out the door, while Divock Origi might not be too far behind him. The Belgian certainly isn’t going to get a tremendous amount of first team football going forward and will never move beyond his impact sub role.
The problem with Origi is that his impact hasn’t been that great, either. Hence the need to bring in some more firepower.
Which is what brings us to this Timo Werner alternative. According to Italian publication Il Messaggero, Joaquin Correa has attracted the attention of Liverpool and they could move for him instead of the German.

Correa has played all over the place but settled into a second striker role for 2019/2020. Through his career the Argentine has mainly featured through the middle or on the left – two areas that Werner can play.
Joaquin Correa has a €80 million release clause in his contract, which might price out Liverpool, but with 40 goals and 26 assists in 233 career games, this could be a decent move to make.
