Three reasons why Liverpool should sign Willian
Bridges the gap
Willian is a man who can be a bit of a stopgap while players mature and develop. Harvey Elliot and Curtis Jones, maybe even Takumi Minamino, may not be completely ready for the first team just yet – but the arrival of Willian could be the perfect gap bridger.
We know that this wouldn’t be a long term move, and so it wouldn’t dishearten the rest of the youngsters too much. They would be able to see that Liverpool needs experienced cover for 2020/2021 and maybe the season beyond that, but in three years time there’d be nobody blocking their path.
This would allow our starlets to develop away from the spotlight. They could potentially go on loan and get senior minutes of their own, and maybe find themselves in the Premier League during the Brazilian’s last season with Liverpool.
Klopp would then get back someone who had 50 or more first team games under their belt, hopefully at a good standard, and knew what was required during games.
Thus, the burden would be a lot lower on these guys and they’d be a lot more likely to have a good impact when they were needed. This move would be a block right now, but could work out for the best in the long run.
