Sky Sports have written an article saying Liverpool won’t take advantage of a generous clause in Timo Werner’s contract with RB Leipzig.

In a long running transfer saga, the news organisation has written that Liverpool are still interested in the German striker but won’t move to take advantage of the fine print that’ll allow him to leave for £52 million.

Timo Werner has spoken about how attractive a move to Anfield would be and we know Jurgen Klopp has taken a look at the former Stuttgart man before.

Bayern Munich had wanted to sign the Germany international, but messed him around last summer and burned their bridges. Thus, Liverpool are the only proper top flight side left in the running for his signature.

Despite this, Sky Sports have written that if Michael Edwards makes a move for the striker it’ll be when the clause expires – but how does that make sense?

We know that Liverpool like to move quickly and with little fuss for their main targets. The Fabinho deal was conducted without any media speculation, while past deals have shown FSG are keen on identifying their top target and then waiting for the right moment to pounce.

The lack of forward reinforcements over the past couple of transfer windows would signal that Liverpool have got their eye on one man in particular and the number of rumours linking these two with each other would indicate Werner is that man.

And if that’s so, a side like Liverpool aren’t going to let his release clause expire and then move for him. This is a man who would tick a number of boxes Klopp is looking to fill and could help take this team to the next level.

This report just doesn’t fit with a clear pattern of recruitment that we’ve seen over recent years and will hopefully be proven wrong.
