A Liverpool legend has blasted one of our squad members, saying the 28-cap international isn’t good enough for the squad.

Liverpool want to upgrade when the next transfer window opens and we’ve seen Timo Werner talked about again, while Cheslea forward Willian has been linked with an Anfield move.

As the rumours keep on ticking by, Sky Sports roll out their panel of pundits to pass comment on whatever story is doing the rounds on that day.

One of those is Liverpool legend Phil Thompson, who played 477 games in all competitions from 1971 to 1985 while winning 15 major honours. Not only that, but the defender coached from 1986 until 1993, before returning as assistant manager in 1998.

That makes Thompson pretty qualified to pass opinion on the club, although he hasn’t been around Liverpool since Gerard Houllier left as manager in 2004.

And he thinks that Divock Origi should be moved on in the summer because the role he plays for Jurgen Klopp isn’t good enough to justify keeping him around.

The 25-year-old, who has picked up 28 caps for Belgium, has been reduced to an impact role as Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah have made themselves so important to the way Klopp plays his football.

Divock Origi has made 22 Premier League appearances this season but played just 516 minutes as he’s managed three goals and three assists. He’s also played six Champions League games and started the home match against Genk.

However, only four of those 22 were starts and the last time Origi scored was the two he netted in the impressive 5-2 victory over Everton in December.

“That’s not really good enough,” Thompson said about the role the Belgian has been playing this season and he’s right. Liverpool will be much better placed with someone who can challenge the front three and compliment them than someone who could be classed as a bit-part player at best.
