Who is Liverpool transfer target Joaquin Correa?
Liverpool have been linked with a transfer move for Lazio playmaker Joaquin Correa, but who is the Argentinian and why might Jurgen Klopp be interested?
Reports have signalled that Liverpool could turn to the Serie A star if things for Timo Werner don’t turn out the way we all want them to.
That’s based on his success this campaign, where the 25-year-old has played as a secondary striker. Scoring seven goals and creating three assists, Joaquin Correa has proven his ability to have an impact at the right end of the field.
The stats for his whole career aren’t that great but they do indicate someone who is versatile and can play across the whole of the front three. According to Transfermarkt, the former Sevilla man has played 53 games on the left wing, 79 as an attacking midfielder or second striker and 16 on the right wing.
With only 17 goals in his whole Lazio career, Correa’s haul of seven before Serie A was suspended seems to indicate someone who is improving in the final third. Liverpool would need their man to be able to replace some of the goals lost whenever Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino or Mohamed Salah drop out of the side.
Before the Argentine plays for Liverpool, he is going to have to work on how he defends from the front. According to Smarter Scout, the attacker isn’t very good at disrupting opposition play or recovering the ball and is weak in the tackle.
But he does make up for this on an attacking front with excellent scores for dribbling, link up play and receiving the ball in the box.
Having worked his way from Estudiantes to Sampdoria to Sevilla and now Lazio in the space of three years, Correa has found himself settled and potential ready for the biggest transfer of his career to date.
