Liverpool star Mohamed Salah has shot down Sky Sports over ridiculous claims the news organization made this weekend.

This is a pretty crazy time we’re living in right now but the good thing is that footballers are more switched on than ever. And that includes Liverpool star Mohamed Salah.

Social media has allowed them to level the playing field in a way past generations didn’t have, any although it comes with a great many pitfalls, being able to directly respond to articles about themselves is one of the positives.

In an era of massive contracts and more autonomy, player power is manifesting itself in a variety of different ways. Mohamed Salah shows us all how they are prepared to take much more from the major media players in a different, yet equally powerful, show of power.

Sky Sports had posted an article questioning the role the Egyptian had at Liverpool in the coming years and whether or not now was the time to cash in on the forward.

There has been a lot of talk surrounding the future of Salah and Sadio Mane, in part driven by the desire for some fans to see fresh arrivals such as Jadon Sancho and Timo Werner, but this was quickly laughed off.

These players have social media too and they can see what’s being posted about them. On this occasion, all it took from Salah was three crying laughter emojis underneath Sky’s story to turn the news back onto them.

It’s a new form of player power, but it’s one that hands autonomy back to them over things like this.

This brings a refreshing change from news organisations being able to write what they like about players with no repercussions. Mo has flexed his flex to great fanfare, and that’s the type of player power we like to see.
