Liverpool fans love the latest transfer rumour to link an elite player with a move to Anfield when the transfer window opens.

And this latest one has got some excited, who have been thinking about the prospect of several top players joining forces to create something special at Liverpool.

This is a strange transfer window and news cycle. Coronavirus and the league’s response to it has been dominating airwaves, but there has been an underlying rumble of news.

While Timo Werner‘s strange saga continues to gather pace, there have been other players linked with a move to Liverpool.

Jurgen Klopp nearly has a complete squad at his disposal, but there are a few problem areas in which the German can look at over the next few months.

He needs a pair of capable full-backs to support Andy Robertson and Trent Alexander-Arnold, possibly another quality forward as well as someone to replace Dejan Lovren if the Croatian seeks more regular football elsewhere.

Every transfer window seems to bring the possibility of Lovren taking his chance at another club, but Klopp seems to value the man and Degsy seems to be happy to play his part in this unbelievable squad – for now.

One thing that has got fans excited is the prospect of Napoli star Kalidou Koulibaly joining them whenever the window is allowed to open.

We’ve already seen that Michael Edwards has got an interesting plan to ensure Liverpool get their man without spending too much money. Could this rumour be the real deal?

Whether it is or isn’t, people are still fantasising and running different scenarios through their mind. One of those is seeing Virgil van Dijk lining up alongside Kalidou Koulibaly in a central defensive partnership that has got impregnable written all over it.

Would it be unfair to the rest of the league? Probably. Should it be illegal? Almost certainly. After all those years at Napoli without winning anything, now is the time for the Senegal international to pick up the silverware he deserves.
