Leadership at a young age

Not only has the Liverpool target been breaking records with his youthful appearances, Camavinga has shown encouraging signs of leadership while he’s been in the side.

Camavinga learns things very quickly, which will make him ideal for Jurgen Klopp. We’ve seen how he likes to take his time with new signings and even successes like Andy Robertson and Fabinho were granted a grace period when they arrived.

But the speed at which the Angolan born midfielder learns new thing will stand him in good stead. One of his first ever coaches explained that they had to work hard to stretch the youngster because of his ability to understand drills and tactics extremely quickly.

Nicolas Martinais worked with him as a youngster for AGL Drapeau Fougeres.

"“All the exercises we did, we’d have just finished explaining them and he’d have already understood everything. “We had to come up with new drills to challenge him, because he was twice as advanced as the others.”"

The role he plays also shows someone with excellent maturity for his age. We’ve got Fabinho featuring as a defensive midfielder, a position Liverpool really struggled with until the Brazilian arrived.

But the fact that a 17-year-old has played more than 2,000 minutes protecting the back four is remarkable. He’s very disciplined and rarely ventures away from his zone to join in with attacks – as an article by Total Football Analysis showed.

His heat map shows someone who mainly operates between his own goal and the halfway line, but does venture forward when required.
