The Dutch Andy Carroll is trying to engineer a Liverpool move
The Dutch Andy Carroll is trying to engineer a move to Liverpool in the summer transfer window and has bigged up Anfield to the press.
We’ve seen agents up and down the land try to get their clients some big moves, and Liverpool always seem to be the target of the speculation.
Bundesliga star Timo Werner has been extensively linked with a move to Anfield along with his competitor Jadon Sancho, but Wout Weghorst is the latest who has added his name into the mix.
Standing at 6ft 5in tall, the Wolfsburg forward would be the tallest man to lead the line for Liverpool since the terrible Andy Carroll experiment ended in tears.
Carroll was signed for big money after half a season in the Premier League and never really worked out. He missed a horrendous chance, while through on goal, against his former side Newcastle United and only played 58 games for Liverpool, scoring 11 goals.
He was signed at the same time as Luis Saurez and was expected to play a ‘little and large’ role with the Uruguayan star, while Stewart Downing was billed as the man to supply them with plenty of ammunition from the flanks.
It never really worked out that way, and Carroll was soon on his way to West Ham.
Wout Weghorst has been talking about the Anfield atmosphere in the hope that Liverpool notice and take a punt on the big forward in order to supplement the forward line.
But will he be any good?
His stats aren’t that bad, and they seem to be getting better as he learns from his experiences and improves under different managers.
With 28 goals in 58 Bundesliga appearances, the Dutch forward has got a good record in Germany but you never know how that would translate to the Premier League or to Liverpool.
Jurgen Klopp plays a very specific brand of football and anyone without the mobility and the work rate won’t fit in with this side.
Is Weghorst going to be the new Carroll or the new Firmino?
