A well-placed source in Germany has confirmed rumours circulating about a Leroy Sane move to Liverpool.

Bayern Munich were thought to be ahead in the race for the Manchester City starlet, but the head of football for SportBild has confirmed Liverpool are also interested in the man.

Leroy Sane would probably have moved back to the Bundesliga had he not suffered his horrible knee injury in the Community Shield, and has made his return in the Premier League 2.

Before that, the flying winger had been making a name for himself as one of the hottest young prospects on the globe.

It’s only natural that Liverpool would have their ear to the ground regarding any player unhappiness moving forward. They managed to pick up Takumi Minamino because they were aware of his release clause, and clearly looked to do the same with Sane.

However, that interest only went so far as the youngster felt he would be unable to leave Manchester City to join the Reds because of the great rivalry they’ve built up over the past few years.

Sane still wants to move, said Christian Falk, but he’ll only go to Bayern Munich. Values might drop when football resumes after the COVID-19 pandemic, so who knows if City will be able to land top dollar for their man.

The player would match the philosophy that Jurgen Klopp wants to bring to the club. He’s a young man who can improve, but goes against it because of the amount of money that would be involved.

We frequently hear the gaffer say he only wants to buy players who could ‘be the next Kylian Mbappe, not Kylian Mbappe’.

This shows us that Klopp is more focused on potential than current ability, and signing those with the hunger and drive to reach the top – not those who are already there.
