Liverpool star Jordan Henderson was fooled by fake Virgil van Dijk news.

We’ve all seen the headlines and Rush The Kop got fooled by it too, so Jordan Henderson is in good company.

The Mirror has said the story that Virgil van Dijk was lucky to play in the current era because former Premier League legends like Didier Drogba or Alan Shearer would walk all over the former Southampton man.

According to the story, former Chelsea man Michael Ballack claimed that van Dijk was only thought of so highly because he never faced those greats. But in that strange twist, the Mirror now say Ballack’s words were ‘a fake quote.’

Henderson was quick to jump on the bandwagon and praise his team mate, because we all know how good he is. The initial quotes were posted on the Sport Bible’s Instagram and Hendo replied to it by saying ‘they’re (Drogba, Shearer etc) the lucky ones.’

It would be great to see the defender lining up against those players, just so that we could put the debate to bed once and for all. There’s been a lot of noise surrounding van Dijk asking just how good he is, with some of it focusing on his relatively short period at the top.

But the manner in which he’s completed his rise to the top shows just how good the Dutchman is. Not only does he add an extremely important layer of brilliance to the defence, but he also brings the level up of those around him.

Joel Matip and Joe Gomez look like different players when they line up next to van Dijk, and that must show a lot for his individual quality.

Whether the quotes were fake or not doesn’t matter too much in the face of the surrounding debate, which has blossomed following their publication.
