Liverpool star Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane will leave for money.
That is the opinion of former Liverpool legend John Barnes, who claimed that every player has his price and every side in the world will sell if the fee is right.
Barnes referenced the deal that took Neymar away from Barcelona to PSG, one of the most prestigious clubs in the world and a regular example of a place footballers dream of playing.
Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane have been in superb form since 2018/2019 and that has led to a fair amount of interest from clubs like Real Madrid and Barcelona. Barnes thinks that they’ll move if they are given a big enough pay increase.
Sam Meade at the Mirror reported that he said footballers are attracted by the amount of money they’ll earn over the course of their career, and by extension said that players only care about their pay packet.
That might be the case for Barnes, but he can’t talk for anyone else with real authority.
"“What attracts footballers today is the salaries that they are going to get. That glosses over the emotional bond both have formed with the fans, Jurgen Klopp and with the rest of the side. It also ignores the fact that Liverpool are a team going places with one of the best managers in the world and a long-term project.
Either one would be a massive miss to the club. Mane and Salah shared the Premier League golden boot last season and have been a massive part of everything good Klopp has done this campaign.
Replacing them would be nearly impossible and would come at a tremendous cost. Jadon Sancho has been mentioned as a transfer target, but you couldn’t see that one being completed under the current economic climate.
Timo Werner has also been a rumoured target, but he’s a different type of player to Mane and Salah as he prefers to operate through the middle.
