Liverpool man Naby Keita has impressed fans in training.
Jurgen Klopp put the boys through their paces out on the Anfield turf as he tries to get them ready for the resumption of the Premier League season.
The squad was split into two teams, who were pretty evenly matched, and played out their game in front of an empty stadium.
Despite having an odd-U23 vibe about it, the quality of football was high and Naby Keita, in particular, showed the world what he’s about.
We were treated to storming runs from midfield, excellent close control, fine stamina levels and powerful breaks through the line as well as a brilliant finish.
Essentially, this performance was everything we thought we were going to get from Keita when he arrived from RB Leipzig. His time away from the field looks to have cleared up some of those injury niggles, and that can only be a good thing.
Now the pressure is on for him to do that in a Premier League match. Keita might find it easier to perform at a high level when the crowd isn’t there, and that might allow him to find the confidence to do it in front of a packed Anfield.
When he’s on fire and on form, he offers something that’s rarely seen from the other Liverpool players and he can become someone that’s vitally important to Klopp and the rest of the squad.
That hasn’t been yet, as a combination of poor fitness and low confidence seems to have damaged Keita’s reputation and has hurt his positioning in the squad.
With any luck, this will be the moment we look back to as the point where his career started to turn the corner and really kick on.
If he plays like he trains, we’re about to see a world beater.
