Everton fans crying over ref choice for Liverpool game
Liverpool have made Everton fans cry.
We know it’s pretty much their natural state of being, especially when you consider the gulf that has opened up between the two sides over the last few years.
When the Premier League returns to action it won’t be in front of a full house but there will be plenty of eyeballs glued to the action, and to the referee.
You need experience and strong personalities to be able to hold a Merseyside derby together, and the referee choice for the day certainly has some of those aspects.
If Arsenal beat Manchester City when they return to football, Liverpool could wrap up the title at Goodison Park and that will give the game more importance than it usually has.
Everton won’t want to be the place where their greatest rivals tasted their sweetest success, and there are sure to be loads of flashpoints during the game that require the ref to use a cool, calm decision making process.
Will Mike Dean be able to provide them?
A staff writer for Sky Sports confirmed that Dean will be the man with the whistle for the game on June 21, which will hopefully be a repeat of the last Merseyside derby he officiated.
That match ended up being a 5-2 win for Liverpool, with rare appearances and goals from Xherdan Shaqiri and Divock Origi.
Twitter has been awash with complaints about the decision to give Dean the game from Everton fans, who are using his allegiance to Tranmere Rovers as a stick to beat him.
Maybe they should stop and consider the fact that they keep on losing to Liverpool because they’re not very good? Carlo Ancelotti put out his full side against Jurgen Klopp’s kids in the FA Cup and still couldn’t get a win.
Stuff like that has got to sting, but it’s not the refs fault the Toffies are rubbish.
