Neco Williams has got it

We thought he might have it during the cup games this season, but now it seems like it’s been confirmed: Neco Williams can play.

The only bad thing about the Welshman is that he’s competing for a place in the side with the best right-back of his generation, which might present a few speed bumps on the path to success.

Klopp saw fit to swap Williams for Alexander-Arnold and give the youngster his first taste of Premier League football, and he didn’t disappoint. As Palace were sitting so deep, this was mainly an exercise in attacking movement, rather than defensive solidity, but Williams looked the part.

We saw him darting down the right, trying to put crosses into the box and at one point he showed a set of heals so clean that you could eat your dinner off them before pounding a shot at Palace goalkeeper Wayne Hennessey.

It was an excellent little glimpse into the skill, bravery and confidence of the young man and a tantalizing look at what might come in the future. It’s always hard not to over-hype youngsters after an encouraging performance, but this has been a while in the making.

Those glimpses during the cup fixtures, against well stocked Arsenal and Everton sides, have made way for a peek behind the Premier League curtain and it looks good.
