Liverpool fans want this ‘dominating’ defender.

Fresh after celebrating winning the Premier League, Liverpool fans are turning their attention towards the transfer market and squad improvements.

Defence has always been a thorny issue. Not because it’s a weak point in the side, rather because of one man: Dejan Lovren.

The Croatian splits opinion like no other in the side. Those who rate the former Southampton man say he’s an excellent squad player, the best fourth choice central defender in the league and someone with an unfair reputation.

Those who hate him, and it always seems to be hate with Lovren, want him gone as soon as possible and they don’t care who’s brought in. To them, Degsy will never have their confidence and he’s never been good enough.

As is normal with this sort of thing, the truth is probably somewhere in between.

Liverpool are probably keeping an eye on the transfer market, just in case something pops up like it did with Takumi Minamino, but the man who impressed this weekend is well known.

He isn’t playing in one of the top five leagues, so you can discount Kalidou Koulibaly or Diego Carlos, but is certainly good enough for the Premier League.

Brighton’s starlet Ben White is currently impressing at Leeds United and just kept one of the Championships’ best striker quiet for 90 minutes.

Aleksander Mitrovic has 23 goals to his name this season and is a human battering ram, but White dominated the Fulham man as Leeds beat them 3-0.

He wasn’t afraid to get physical with the man Serbian, who will probably get reprimanded for his off the ball elbow on White. The defender was quick to nip the ball off Mitrovic’s toe, showed his strength and also his positional sense.

It’s lead to high praise from around the football world, and a few glances from other clubs. Leeds want to keep White, but so do Brighton. With two years left on his contract, could a transfer saga be on the cards?
