Defense

. . . Trent Alexander-Arnold. 5

Trent was sharp on the ball as he looked to release Mane down the left with his glorious, sweeping passes, but that seemed to be the sum of his good work and things just got sloppy after that. One horrible moment came as he throw the ball straight to Gabriel Jesus, and Alexander-Arnold just didn’t seem his normal self.

Virgil van Dijk. 7. . .

Tried to do his usual marshalling of the back four but in the face of individual error and a midfield vacating their duties, Virgil van Dijk couldn’t do much. He displayed some excellent reading of the game in the second half when he cleared Foden’s shot off the line after just 50 minutes.

4. . . . Joe Gomez

It was all going so well and then Joe Gomez did something stupid and ruined it all. He grappled and wrestled and hauled Raheem Sterling to the floor and de Bruyne did the rest. Gomez was so bad that Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain came on to replace him at half time as Fabinho stepped back into midfield.

. . Andy Robertson. 4.

Andy Robertson asked for two days off but he should have been given the week, that’s how bad he was. Milner would have been better. Larouci would have been better. He was completely at fault for the third goal as he rushed out of position and left Foden free for the third goal.
