Liverpool 0-4 Man City: 3 things we learned – Klopp is an Anfield merchant
Kevin de Bruyne would complete us
One of the most consistent gripes aimed at this Liverpool team is that the midfield doesn’t do enough, but a failure to understand why that’s important to Klopp is a failure to understand why this team is so good.
Fabinho holds it together while Jordan Henderson and Gini Wijnaldum provide industry, leadership and the ability to spot a pass from deep. But there is someone out there who does that all and more. We need Kevin de Bruyne.
He controlled this game from start to finish and reminded everyone why he’s a unique player in the modern game. De Bruyne can ghost between the lines like Roberto Firmino, hit passes like Trent Alexander-Arnold and finish like Mohamed Salah.
If City are denied Champions League football for the next two years, Klopp and Michael Edwards need to make a serious effort to sign this one-of-a-kind footballer. They’ve got precedent for going for big targets who would improve the side instantly.
Kevin de Bruyne is exactly that sort of man, and it would herald an unheard of few years for the club.
He’s just about the only City player that would improve the team, aside from a fit Aymeric Laporte, and he showed us why.
