Liverpool 4-0 confirms Manchester City’s unhealthy obsession

Liverpool are in Manchester City heads.

Twitter was buzzing after City lost 1-0 to Southampton thanks to Che Adams’ first goal for the club in 24 appearances, but it wasn’t buzzing for the reason you might think.

Instead of looking within themselves, or talking about what the Saints had just managed to do to them, City fans’ thoughts instantly turned towards Liverpool.

But not because the Reds had freshly beaten Aston Villa 2-0, and not because something of great note occurred during their loss.

They were tweeting about Liverpool, and in particular the 4-0 win last week, as a point of reference for the highlight of their season.

The fact that the best bit of the Cityzens’ campaign was being victorious over a team who had already won the Premier League by 23 points shows how rough things have been for City this season.

Wherever Liverpool go, them not picking up three points seems to be the story of the week.

Liverpool can grind out wins too, and get those ‘not at their best but picked up three points’ wins. We’re always told those are the mark of true champions and that has rung true in 2019/2020.
