Liverpool beat Aston Villa but is Divock Origi finished?

The Belgian started up front as Roberto Firmino was rested as Jurgen Klopp shuffled the troops after the disappointing 4-0 loss to Manchester City.

Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain were brought into midfield to play either side of Fabinho as part of an axis that many fans have been calling for.

Klopp rotated more than anyone expected, but it almost failed to work as Liverpool put in a laboured performance and took until the 71st minute to break the deadlock as Sadio Mane lashed home Keita’s creative pass.

Divock Origi was given the rare chance to start but failed to make the grade once again. The forward appeared to be heading in the right direction when he scored and played really well against Everton back in December, but hasn’t been able to build on that.

Curtis Jones scored the second, fresh after signing a new contract with Liverpool, while Neco Williams got another taste of first team action.

Origi may not get sold this summer, especially after COVID-19 has dropped the bottom out of the transfer market, but Klopp could start to phase the Belgian out of the first team. We’ve seen Takumi Minamino given the nod ahead of Origi, could that turn into the new normal?

It’s another three points for Liverpool as they look to edge towards the 100 mark this season. With games against Brighton, Burnley and Newcastle United still to come, the Reds have every chance of breaking the century.
