8. . . . Sadio Mane

Liverpool’s talisman on so many occasions this season, and once again Mane turned up for the club.

He produced a match winning display at Villa Park, and it was rightfully he who broke the deadlock today with a sumptuous finish off the crossbar.

The Senegalese international never stopped picking the ball from deep, working hard and moving the ball quickly in an attempt to make space.

We’ve always known his explosivity and pace – but Mane the technician is often under-appreciated.

. . . Divock Origi. 4

It wasn’t pretty for Divock Origi today – much alike the new blonde trim he was sporting.

He didn’t really channel his inner Djibril Cisse. More his inner Joelinton.

A cult hero at the club, and we all know the massive importance he had to the Champions League win last year. We will always love him.

But as a semi-regular, you have to feel that the clock is ticking for Origi at Anfield. Unless he settles for less minutes, that could be his final start.

5. . . . Mohamed Salah

Firstly, Salah decided to play this match after his aunt passed away in Egypt today – so he does have an excuse for not really being at the races. May she rest in peace.

Mo looked dangerous in parts but seemed to tangle with far too many Villa players at once on a regular basis.

He salvaged a five as he crossed for Curtis Jones to finish his first Premier League goal – making him the second fastest man to 100 goal contributions in the Premier League era behind Alan Shearer (in terms of appearances, he is fastest in time played).
