Liverpool player ratings vs Brighton: Keita 9, Williams ‘excellent’
It wasn’t your typical Trent performance, galavanting down the right hand side with close control near to perfection.
He looked rusty at times, but he did show shadows of his usual self via his searching, pinpoint passing – that’s why he takes a six.
Class.
The Dutchman dictated the match not only with passing of his own, but his true calmness and aura meant Maupay’s night was over before it started.
His performance was summed up by his ‘headed flick’ over Aaron Connolly’s head, only for the Irishman to be deceived and Van Dijk maintained possession – Twitter went crazy over this one!
Joe looked solid today in parts – although Van Dijk was needed to cover in certain situations.
But it’s another win under the former Charlton man’s belt – he’s looking more and more at home again at the top level after his shocker at the Etihad.
The Welshman was a surprise starter but he proved immediately at both ends why Jurgen Klopp selected him at left-back – a position he occupies with the Wales youth setup.
Like Andy Robertson, he was the recipient of several delicious crossfield passes and seemed to make more use. He made a goal-saving block from Neal Maupay as well.
Although he had a few moments against Tariq Lamptey to be desired, he looked excellent at times going forward in a position he isn’t as natural in.
He was replaced by the Scot at half-time, but he did excellently. A massive future ahead.
