Xhedan Shaqiri made a rare appearance while Joel Matip was chosen to partner Virgil van Dijk in defence. Matip won’t be available to do that this time around as he was ruled out for the campaign following a toe injury picked up against Everton.

After Curtis Jones announced himself to the Premier League with his deflected goal against Aston Villa and Harvey Elliott signed his first professional deal, Jurgen Klopp has a unique chance to allow the youngsters to build on their progress.

Takumi Minamino is another who could do with some minutes now that the season is wrapped up. His future role will probably be as Roberto Firmino’s replacement, and playing him through the middle now could reap dividends in the long-term.

Burnley will represent a much different challenge to the one they normally are. They’ve been poorly managed over the COVID-19 break and allowed several key players to run their contracts down and leave for free.

Jeff Hendrick was a key player but he’s walked for nothing. The Burnley Express spread figures that show he’s one of the most valuable free signings in Europe and the 28-year-old will certainly attract interest from around Europe.
