Liverpool player ratings – defence

5. . . . Trent Alexander-Arnold

In a game that featured Liverpool’s left significantly more than Liverpool’s right, Alexander-Arnold didn’t feature as regularly as Andy Robertson in Liverpool’s marauds forward.

His crossing in general was poor but didn’t make any errors in general defensively – he also was lucky to be on the pitch after a studs-up challenge on Bukayo Saka.

. . . Joe Gomez. 8

Joe Gomez was Liverpool’s best player on the pitch tonight and picks up our Man of the Match award.

His defensive nous was especially on point, and it needed to be with the lax efforts of his partner for the first goal.

He was even pinging 50 yard passes like an in-form Virgil van Dijk. It’s promising.

. Virgil van Dijk. 4. .

The error for the goal will categorise Van Dijk’s performance – and being honest, so it should.

He looked solid as per albeit but the Dutchman was the other reason for Liverpool’s defeat today, as he has been part of so many victories with his performances this season.

. Andy Robertson. 7. .

Robertson looked sharp and provided the assist for Sadio Mane to put the Reds’ in front.

The majority of creation came down the Scot’s side, but so did pretty much all of Arsenal’s creation – a seven seems fitting for Robbo.
